The Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture (CCVT) is a non-profit organization that provides comprehensive support and rehabilitation services to survivors of torture, war trauma, and other forms of violence. Their solutions include:
 
1.      Counseling: CCVT offers individual counseling sessions with trained professionals who specialize in working with survivors of torture and trauma. These counselors provide emotional support, help individuals process their experiences, manage symptoms such as anxiety or depression, and develop coping strategies.
 
2.      Group therapy: The center facilitates group therapy sessions where survivors can connect with others who have had similar experiences. This creates a supportive environment for sharing stories, building resilience together, learning from each other’s journeys towards healing.
 
3.      Medical care : CCVT has medical practitioners on staff providing specialized healthcare tailored to the unique needs arising out traumatic events
 
4.      Social integration assistance: CCVT helps clients navigate various aspects related to social integration into Canadian society including housing , employment opportunities , education etc
 
5.      Legal aid & advocacy - They offer legal advice regarding immigration issues alongwith advocating at different levels ensuring rights are protected .
 
6.      Language interpretation/translation services- To ensure effective communication between service providers /clients language interpreters/translators are available when needed .
 
7.      Educational programs/workshops - Providing educational workshops aimed at raising awareness about human rights violations while promoting cultural sensitivity within communities
 
8.      Referrals/networking – Collaborating closely with community partners they facilitate referrals if additional supports/services required beyond what they directly offer

Mental Health Counselling and Support
Confidential assessment, counselling, crisis intervention and support services
  • individual, family and group counselling, and mutual support groups
  • service coordination and referral to treatment
  • contact for information on available languages

Settlement Services
Including needs assessment, information and referral, orientation, supportive counselling, interpretation and translation services, employment counselling and computer training, and peer support groups
  • referrals to outside resources, including housing, social services, legal and medical help, skills training, cultural groups, and recreational programs
  • assistance with documation and completing applications

Children, Youth, and Parent Programs
Specialized settlement services for children and their families to deal with trauma and restore family functioning
  • homework club, individual tutoring, education counselling, leadership development, and summer recreation programs
  • workshops such as job interview skills, employment training, driver education, health and sexual health, education options
  • parent supports such as counselling, school and child welfare systems navigation, assistance accessing child care and completing subsidies applications
  • assistance accessing free or affordable community programs

Language and Skills Training
Includes English as a Second Language (ESL), computer classes, citizenship preparation classes
